So basically, computer froze and locked up at some point, shut it down and it hasn't powered on since. It seems to be getting power still based on the fact the green lights on my GPU are coming on, but nothing else comes on. Thinking something is wrong with the motherboard, but I'm not sure - anybody have any ideas?

So tried resetting CMOS, didn't do anything. Maybe fried mobo, maybe fried PSU and lights coming on for no reason? God I'm lost. Thinking I need both replaced at this point.

The lights are coming on from the 5v standby supply on your PSU. Pretty resilient, usually the last bit to go. So, could be PSU or motherboard. Gotta swap things and test.

RAM can do funny things too, try one stick at a time and test.

Did your computer display this error?

But more seriously, something kinda like this happened to me once. Turns out it was the voltage switch on the PSU. Make sure that is in the right position. After that, crack that baby open, make sure that all the power cords are firmly plugged in. If that doesn't solve your woes, then there is something wrong with the hardware. See above.

Yeah, not the voltage switch - tried both positions, tried pretty much everything with it. So far just haven't tried the RAM bit yet which I can try here in a bit. Really do think something got fried somehow.

remove everything - plug everything back in starting only with the components you need to run it.

Have already removed GPU and unplugged everything from the mobo and plugged it all in and nothing changed. Really hate the idea of taking out the CPU, mobo, EVERYTHING. Sounds crazy.

It's only takes one bad stick of RAM. Did you swap out RAM one by one yet? Same exact thing happened on my mother in laws comp.

Damn, does your system throw post code beeps when you remove anything from it. Might help narrow down.

It doesn't power on. At all. Can't throw code beeps when it's not powering on in the slightest.

Unplug the power switch from the board and carefully short the pins with a screwdriver or something. Also try powering up with the reset switch unplugged.

Either switch being broken in the wrong way could produce your symptoms. Hard to explain the how from my phone, but looking up the installation process from your motherboards manual should give you a hint. The goal is to try booting with the reset button unhooked in case it is shorted out, and to try skipping the power switch completely in case it is broke.

Some midrange boards include a spare switch for testing in the box, too.

Could it have gotten broke without messing with the PC itself at all? I mean my PC has literally died after just turning it off after freezing on me. I almost never mess with it. Ashamed to admit I don't even dust it as often as I should - afraid of breaking something. Just kinda didn't want to turn on again for some reason.

Also not too sure if I even still have the manual or spare stuff it came with laying around....

Looks like I'll be replacing either PSU or motherboard. Take a guess guys, which one died on me, because I'm replacing one or the other and I have a 50/50 shot of getting it right.

Got no info to guess on since you didn't try troubleshooting anything besides the RAM. :p

Okay, tried my very best - but considering I don't know how to short a pin with a screwdriver, yeah, take that with a grain of salt. I did unhook the switches and try powering them on with them unhooked, and tried after they were hooked in again - no luck. FML.
