I've been playing some Cube 2: Sauerbraten, should throw a server up @Sandbag it's fun and free. Any other good retro ftp UT/Quake style competitive shooters out there?

 

Retro FTP shooters.. I've heard good stuff about Warsow and Xonotic

 

Ok Warsow looks like a BLAST! So different and I am loving the artstyle. Xonotic looks very well done. Downloading both as I'm typing this. It's too bad Quake 4 died out, I still have my disk. Also still waiting on the Halo clan revival...

 

Get ready to be pwned in both.

WHO HERE WANTS TO HEAR SOME STORIES ABOUT UPCOMING ARENA FPS's?! I KNOW THAT I HAVE SOME.

Currently, there are three Arena FPS's that I am keeping a close eye on.

The first is a game called Reborn, and it is being made by a small European team headed by James "2GD" Harding, a former Quake 3/Quake 4 pro player. A small rundown of planned features in the game:

• Integrated tournament and ladder system
• 3-4 different classes of "robots" (the player characters). Each class has different abilities, weapons, and physics, being designed by different people.
• Robots can also have abilites - reverse, boost, blink, etc.
• Duel, CTF gamemodes, community gamemodes, Steam Integration with marketplace
• In-game and multiplayer map editor, which can also render the lighting and textures of the map using resources from all connected clients
• Other things, check video below

We only really have information about one of the robots, which essentially uses Q3 physics and strafejumping. This is likely to be changed in the future, however. Here is a video updating people on the current status of the game - go to about 5:10 for the meat:

The second game is called Project Nex. This game is going to be more like UT2k4, with an energy management system. Features:

• Wallrunning, wallclamping, dodge, and bunnyhopping. Wallrunning, clamping and bunnyhopping all take a form of energy to use.
• ELO Ranking system
• Single and multiplayer games

The third game is called Reflex, and this is basically going to be a stand-alone version of CPMA. I may not be a huge fan of CPMA, but this still has my interest.

Other games that seem like they could be fun include:

• Tesseract - http://tesseract.gg/ - instagib CTF and DM right now, probably going to focus on instagib instead of traditional gameplay. Built on a modified version of the Cube Engine.

I've been watching Project Nex too, I think it will be pretty good. I might check out Project Free Fall.

I know, I like Poland too.

The only problem with Warsow and Xonotic is that the community of those games are pretty much dead. There are more people on Halo servers than those.

basic installs so far - we'll see how that goes before install gets permanent with custom configs etc.
