$5 spotify? I just run run my subsonic server. Bought a lifetime license years ago for $10 ( I don't think they offere them anymore, but I'm grandfathered in ), and now I can stream it wherever. Great $5 app for my iphone, and roku and android apps are free.
Yeah I get it for $5 since the wife is in college. 50% discount. I used to use subsonic, still have it running on my home pc but I got tired of downloading music all the time. I have enough to download already between Movies and TV.
I've used all of 'em. XM was awesome when I had it in my car headunit. Nice having such a big radio selection, and all the time. Still got my Subsonic too, I did use it full time for awhile. But it's hard to beat Spotify, even at full price ($10). And I sync a big playlist to my phone so I've got my favorite tracks without using up mobile data. tl;dr - Ton of choices out there.
how do you figure? I have a crap ton of music, and paid a one time fee for the license. Plus, the app on my phone can cache music from the server. Or is spotify a one time payment? I tried checking it out once, but it didn't give me an option to do anything other than login with facebook, so I never did.
I'm assigning a monetary value to my time. Took a lot of years to learn that lesson. Spotify requires no upkeep. No server updates, and no going to fetch new releases or that track I heard on the radio or whatever. Plus the psychological factor of being "legit."
I find that a lot of my friends (who are all much older than me) express those same sentiments. I would imagine I'll find myself in that boat of more money than i have time. But right now, I have a whole damn lot of time that no one wants to pay me for, so I end up doing things like running my own servers
Spotify is amazing even with the ads, but I like my SiriusXM for the time being. As for Subsonic that kicks ass (as to being logged into Gorians Guest account, so much music he has uploaded. The only bad factor is the music that is not there. I suppose adding music to the server takes up space as well.
