Hey Minecraft crew so I'm a total minecraft noob and whilst attempting to install minecraft and tekkit I came across this first noobobsticle. If I'm running Technic, am I running Tekkit? Are they the same? In attempting to install tekkit the clicks and links and nexts lead me to an installation of Technic. What now?
Technic is the launcher for Tekkit and some other mod packs. Basically, install the Technic launcher, launch it, and choose Tekkit (just regular Tekkit, no other version of it) and run that - it will then install the mod pack, and you'll be ready to play.
There USED to be a difference. Technic was single-player tekkit was multiplayer. But after one of the minecraft versions (forgot which) they changed the way the engine works, so that single-player was just you playing on your own multiplayer server (so you could open it to LAN) and there was no longer a difference between technic and tekkit, so now technic is just kind of the over-arching collection of the mod packs, launcher, etc.
