Website Maintenance

Hey gang,

XenForo is a commercial forum. King & I bought the original 1 yr license but it's now expired and we're a couple releases behind. An addon update is forcing us to update the forum soon, so we'll need to renew that subscription for $40 (for another year). I believe there was also a theme update that King needed to renew, plus a few premium plugins I thought we may enjoy.

I'd like to try a little fundraising towards this maintenance. Once I talk to King about the theme I'll get that dollar amount in here too, and funds raised will first go to the forum renewal, then theme, and anything extra will be held until we choose to purchase a premium feature/addon. If we do have excess I'll share a list of possible features with the contributors and allow them to vote on a favorite.

I'll also create a "Contributor" or "Supporter" member group for anyone who chips in. And .. If anyone has financially supported us in the past year I'd also be more than happy to retroactively move them to the contributor group, just for some in-forum recognition. Any specialists who have contributors to recognize, shoot me a PM.

EDIT: Also, while I'm thinking about it, could it be a good idea to add in a group to TS for Supporters/Contributors for some extra recognition? Hmmm...

There's still a positive balance, likely more than enough for the theme update as well. We're in our bonus area now.. Getting to pick out new features. I'll try and get a list together by Monday.

Thanks Suppy! King is reworking some theme stuff - after that's stable I'll figure out the forum recognition.

TaigaChat Pro - 25GBP/38.74USD

Adds a few perks over our existing shout box -

• /me command
• Lighter/faster refresh system - faster updates, less lag
• Persistent message colors/color picker
• Members in Chat stats/list
• Tab/Window title notification for new messages
• Optional - Forum activity in the chat stream
• Ban from shoutbox - shoutbox mods
• /prune command - lets anyone with permission trim the history (but keep the archive) if it gets too long or spammy
• Supports forum ignore function
• Fixes the scroll to bottom feature when images are embedded

XenPorta 2 - 40USD

Upgraded & pro version of our current portal page - the current free one is abandoned and not likely to get updates.

The feature list really reads similar to our current portal - it would be a nice upgrade simply to get caught up with currently developed software, and have better support for widgets from other current add ons. Theme-wise, it seems sharper too. It's probably best just to check out the dev's website to see what it can do: http://8wayrun.com/

XenRio (Streams) Pro - 40USD

Fancier livestreaming addon, from 8wayrun (same as XenPorta) - so it integrates well with the portal/home page. Plus they're a clan that focuses a lot on streaming, so it's their bread & butter.

No feature list - It displays streams. The real perk is the quality layout and UI.

User Essentials - Enhanced Version - 31.72USD

I used to have a cheaper version of this on my wishlist for one feature only - Username changes. They've abandoned the cheaper one though, so it's probably a good thing I skipped it. This one does that, and more:

Username changes, including:

• Moderation - Approve/Deny changes
• Name change cycles - One change per X
• Visible Indication - notes old name on user title for X days
• Tracking of all previous names for ease of admin

Other stuff:

• Added poll options - Let poll creators delete their poll with no votes or less than X time
• User Action Log for moderators - see all edits, messages, username changes, etc
• Lock/Unlock own thread permissions, with moderator overrides

I really like this one solely for the username changes and we've managed to get by without for awhile. Some of the extras it added are now in the default forum install, too. Just throwing it out there in case there's more demand now for username changes than I thought.



Obviously, I'd like to let Nimitz and Supplice pick. Everyone is welcome to weigh in on what they like the looks of, though.

I have no place to choose but sounds like XenPorta 2 would give the most bang for buck. That would be my vote.

 

I think that's true. Also, we could do any two of these.

 

User Essentials would be my number two, but lets get some others in on this. Come on people.

 

I'm not super partial to any of these, so I've been trying to see what others thought.

With that said, all of the options seem pretty nice - but the XenPorta one seems like it'd do pretty good, and from there it's a tough pick. I like the sounds of the TaigaChat one for no other reason than some of the extra features, fixes for the scrolling, and /prune command (cough cough) but that's just me - nothing really very necessary or important atm. The stream page looks good, but we don't really have a lot of streams going and our streamers aren't super dooper dedicated to streaming so we might be okay with a lighter thing like we have now.

All in all, User Essentials as #2 like Abbadon said? The idea of extra poll options and easier name changes kinda pulls me in, but I'm still curios for extra thoughts.

 

Echoed a lot of my thoughts. Features and needs aside, XenPorta is a good investment on future compatibility with what ever cool add-on comes along. The others all have some perks to consider.
